AUDITIONS FOR 'ANNIE' AT DMTC SEPT. 12-13

     DAVIS, Calif. (Aug. 27, 2010) - Auditions for DMTC's Main Stage production of ANNIE will be Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. and Monday, September 13, 2010 at 7:30 p.m., at the DMTC Performing Arts Center, 607 Pena Drive, Davis. Please bring sheet music for a song that you already know (but not from ANNIE). You do not have to sing an entire song, just enough to give us an idea of how well you can carry a tune and follow our piano player's accompaniment (no taped music or a cappella, please). Callbacks will be on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 also at 7:30pm.
    ANNIE , a musical adaptation of Harold Gray's Little Orphan Annie comic strips, features the memorable songs "It's a Hard Knock Life," "Easy Street," and of course, "Tomorrow." The music is by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and book by Thomas Meehan. Steve Isaacson will direct.
    ANNIE will run November 12-December 5, 2010, with performances at 8:15 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2:15 p.m. on Sundays. All performances will be at the DMTC Performing Arts Center, 607 Pena Drive, Davis.


MAIN CHARACTERS:
Annie: spunky, big-voiced, mezzo (A - high F)
Oliver Warbucks: warm-hearted, stiff-collared; baritone, shaved head optional (C - high F)
Miss Hannigan: comic character actress, hates children; mezzo (A - A-flat)
Grace Farrell: faithful assistant to Warbucks, soprano (A - high G)
Rooster: Miss Hannigan's no-good brother, comic gangster, dances; baritone (B - high G)
Lily: Rooster's floozy girlfriend, dances; soprano (D - high G)
FDR: the President, character singer
Drake: Warbucks's butler, stiff, character singer
Molly: youngest orphan
Pepper: the toughest orphan
Kate: the next to littlest orphan
Duffy: the biggest orphan
Tessie: the cry baby orphan
July: the quietest
All six of the orphans must sing and dance.
    There will also be a large ensemble of men & women that have a lot to do. They are Hooverville, Warbucks Staff, NYC patrons, Roosevelt's Cabinet, plus there are some small solos (Star-to-be, etc).
 

DMTC OPENS 'SINGIN' IN THE RAIN' SEPT. 10

     DAVIS, Calif. (Aug. 27, 2010) - Singin' in the Rain, the most famous and beloved movie musical of all time, will open the Davis Musical Theatre Company's 26th season of musicals on September 10, 2010. Directed by Paul Fearn, with choreography by Ron Cisneros and musical direction by Chris Congdon and Adam Sartain, this classic MGM musical has been faithfully and lovingly adapted for the stage from the original award-winning screenplay. Each unforgettable scene, song and dance is accounted for, great song such as: "Good Moring", "You Are My Lucky Star", Make 'Em Laugh" and the show-stopping title number - complete with rain on stage!
    Singin' in the Rain performs September 10-October 3, 2010, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:15 pm and Sundays at 2:15 pm, at the DMTC Performing Arts Center, 607 Pena Drive, Davis, CA 95618. BOB & RO PRESENT 'COHOOTS'  BEGINNING AUG. 27

DMTC ANNOUNCES 26TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON

     DAVIS, Calif. (July 25, 2010) - The Davis Musical Theatre Company proudly announces their 26th season of Broadway Musicals, to be performed at the DMTC Performing Arts Center, 607 Pena Drive, Davis.
    Singin’ in the Rain (Sep 10 –Oct 3, 2010) The greatest MGM movie musical comes to the DMTC stage for the first time! Set in 1927 during the transition between silent film and ‘talkies’, “Singin’ in the Rain” is the stage adaptation of Gene Kelly’s movie masterpiece. (And yes, it will rain on stage!)
    Annie (November 12 –December 5, 2010) A red-haired mop-top orphan, yearning to break out of her dreary life in an orphanage run by an iron-fisted, boozy matron, charms billionaire Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks into adopting her—but what she really wants is to find her real parents. Includes “Hard Knock Life”, “A New Deal for Christmas”, and the classic “Tomorrow”.
    Chess, the musical (January 7 – 30, 2011) The Tim Rice musical about the Cold War and a Russian torn between his home and his love. Intrigue and internecine conflict abound in this tale set during international chess competitions. Features the 80s pop hit “One Night in Bangkok” and “I Know
Him So Well.” (Special New years Eve Gala).
    Guys & Dolls (Feb 25 –Mar 20, 2011) Often referred to as “the perfect Broadway musical,” this classic features the popular tunes “Luck be a Lady,” “I’ve Never Been In Love Before” and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat.”
    How to Succeed in Business, Without Really Trying (Apr 22 – May 15, 2011) Winner of 7 Tonys and the Pulitzer Prize, this is the story of ambitious young window cleaner who fakes his way through the rest of the “mad men” to the top of the corporate ladder. It’s hilarious script and terrific musical
score makes it an all-time favorite.
    Peter Pan (Jun 17 – Jul 10, 2011) Peter Pan, like its namesake, is a tale that never ages. Join Peter, the Lost Boys and Tinkerbell as they battle Captain Hook and his men in Neverland, trying to save Wendy, John and Michael. Fun for the whole family.

'GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME' AT ARDEN PLAYHOUSE

     SACRAMENTO, Calif. (July 15, 2010) - Arden Playhouse is pleased to present a very special summer production in its beautiful new theater...the first new theater in unincorporated Sacramento County in decades.
    The Good Old Summertime is a musical revue packed full of the most popular music from the turn of the century (not this one - the last one!). Enjoy once again the sweet bygone days as four unwitting time travelers encounter their toot, toot, tootsies, when every pretty girl was like a melody and hours were often spent chasing rainbows. Ah, the sweet mystery of life is sure to be found. So don’t be a melancholy baby, join us by the light of the silvery moon, any Friday or Saturday night, or stroll down a shady lane for a Sunday matinee. Bring your beautiful doll or your sweet honey bee!
    Matt Gavin (Writer-Director) is a voice graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Gavin has had a passion for musical theater and popular songs all his life. In The Good Old Summertime, his debut at the Arden Playhouse, he has made use of his nearly five decades of experience in directing, playwriting, songwriting, lyric writing, and performing. After years in New York City and Los Angeles, Matt now makes his home in Sacramento with his wife, Marguerite.
    The Good Old Summertime has its Arden Playhouse opening on August 6th and continues on Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm until August 28th. Sunday matinees are August 15th, & 22nd, at 2pm. Tickets are $15 for special summer admission. Tickets can be arranged by calling (916) 332-2582.
