The King and I
majestically closes Music Circus

Anna (Sarah Tattersall) and the King of Siam (Paul Schoeffler) dance together in the Music Circus production of THE KING AND I, playing through Aug. 27, 2000.
It seems like every season the Music Circus saves the best for last and such was the case for the final production of the 2000 season. THE KING AND I opened Aug. 21 and delighted the capacity crowd with its lavish costumes, great cast and favorite Rodgers and Hammerstein tunes.

One of our favorite leading ladies returns to the tent for her 22nd show at the Music Circus. Sarah Tattersall stars as Anna Leonowens, the English school teacher who travels to Siam to teach the children of the King (Paul Schoeffler).

Sarah has graced the stage in such productions as BRIGADOON (Fiona) and the last three presentations of MY FAIR LADY (Eliza Doolittle). She has also appeared in KISS ME KATE, INTO THE WOODS, SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, OKLAHOMA, and also the local Broadway Series production of 1776.

The former Miss Arizona is truly one of the crowd favorites and brings a touch of class to the stage every time she sets foot on it - not to mention her lovely singing voice which gets better and better with each show she does.

Paul Schoeffler stars as The King and returns to Sacramento after appearing as Hilaire Jussac in CAN-CAN in 1997. The native Canadian's transformation into the King of Siam was convincing and Schoeffler's mannerisms - both with body and voice - quickly cast a spell over the opening night crowd.

Schoeffler appeared as Hook on Broadway with Cathy Rigby in PETER PAN and will be in a televised version of the production this fall on the Arts & Entertainment Network.

One of the many bright spots of this Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, of course, is the music. THE KING AND I has many memorable songs including "I Whistle a Happy Tune," "Getting to Know You," and "Shall We Dance?" And of course, the show within a show, "The Small House of Uncle Thomas," in which the people of Siam put on a spectacular and lavishly costumed musical play for a visiting diplomat. The audience loved them all, especially "Uncle Thomas" and Anna and The King's dance around the stage to "Shall We Dance?"

THE KING AND I is truly the highlight of Music Circus' 50th season and plays through Aug. 27. If you haven't seen it, don't wait, it's short run will be over soon.
