The Post 383 American Legion baseball team falls victim to a mysterious disease every year about this time. Sometimes the Fair Oaks team recovers and plays tremendous baseball down the stretch, sometimes they all but roll over and die. This disease - also known as Senior-Trip-Itis - struck Post 383 over the weekend, as Fair Oaks lost two games to Cordova on Sunday at Bella Vista High School. The symptoms could have been worse had Mother Nature not intervened with more unseasonable rain. Saturday's doubleheader was moved to Sunday and Sunday's single game will be played Friday at Cordova beginning at 4 p.m.

As it was, Sundays doubleheader featured a depleted Fair Oaks team, as the heart of Post 383's batting order and several pitchers were off on their senior trips. Cordova beat Fair Oaks 6-2 in the opener and came back to win the second game 2-0. Coupled with the missing players, the remaining squad didn't have one of their better days at the plate - despite giving up only two earned runs in 16 innings, Fair Oaks dropped its record to 7-3 on the year.
Post 383 trailed 6-0 going into the bottom of the fifth in Sunday's first game, but finally managed to drive in a run, as first baseman Eric Henrikson doubled to bring in pitcher Jim Ott for a 6-1 game. In the seventh, Post 383 got its only other run of the contest as Ott and Henrikson teamed up again. Ott led things off with a double to center field and scored on Henrikson's double to left for a 6-2 game. Neither team could muster much offense after that, with Cordova recording the 6-2 victory.
Fair Oaks suffered its first shutout of the year in the second game, as Cordova scored single runs in the second and fourth innings for the 2-0 victory. It could have been worse, as starting pitcher Garrett Schoenfelder wiggled out of a bases loaded situation in the second. Three of the first four batters got hits to bring in Cordova's run, with Schoenfelder getting the second batter of the inning to pop to Reagan Reynolds at second. The next batter grounded back to Schoenfelder on the mound, who threw home to catcher Jason Wilkerson for the out at the plate. Another hit followed to load the bases and the next batter lined the ball to Dennis Hunt at short to end the inning.
Fair Oaks' best chance to score came in the third inning as left fielder Greg Efstratis walked to start things off. Center fielder Stu Goodall then bunted to third, moving Efstratis to second and Reynolds singled to move the runner to third. With third baseman Ryan Case at the plate, Reynolds was caught stealing second and Case flew out to center to end the inning.
Fair Oaks only managed one base runner in each of the next three innings, and went out in order in the bottom of the seventh to give Cordova the 2-0 win.
Things won't get any easier for Fair Oaks until the weekend when Post 383 should get the bulk of its players back. Today, however, Fair Oaks must face National Division leader Post 61 at Bella Vista beginning at 5 p.m. and then on Friday, Post 383 travels to Cordova to make up their game from this past weekend. Saturday, Fair Oaks hosts Haggin-Grant in a 10:30 a.m. doubleheader, with a single game following on Sunday at Rio Linda High School beginning at 11 a.m.
Haggin-Grant is struggling with a 3-8 record, seven games behind American Division leader Citrus Heights.
