News THE POST 383 PAGE IS BACK!!! FAIR OAKS, Calif. (Feb. 12, 2022) - I have revived the old Fair Oaks Post 383 Baseball web page. No, the team is not back, but it is part of history.
QUEST TO REVIVE FAIR OAKS POST 383 TEAM ENDS FAIR OAKS, Calif. (July 3, 2016) - Fair Oaks Post 383 has decided to end its efforts to revive the Senior American Legion Baseball Team. As such, this web page will be taken down at the end of 2016 when the domain renewal comes due. It was a great 25 years covering the team and it has been a pleasure knowing the hundreds of players that participated in the program and the coaches that guided the teams.
SAD DAY FOR F.O. POST 383 AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL FAIR OAKS, Calif. (Mar. 15, 2015) - The Fair Oaks Post 383 American Legion baseball team is no more. The Oaks have been removed from the 2015 District 6 Memorial Day Tournament schedule as well as the 2015 District 6 league schedule. Making up District 6 this year will be Yolo, Lodi, West Sacramento, Haggin-Grant and Yuba City. We've covered the Fair Oaks team for the past 25 years both in print and here on the web page. It leaves a huge hole in our hearts not to have another summer filled with baseball. Thanks to all the players, fans and coaches who made the team a success. Jerry Rieger, who started the team in 1989 and coached it the first two years. Don Barney who took over from 1991-2004, compiling a 299-150 record for a .666 winning percentage, and Jerry Crews (2005-13) who guided the Oaks to a 234-94 record (.713). This web page will remain active until the end of 2015 when the domain registration expires.
NEW ALIGNMENT FOR AMERICAN LEGION AREA 1 IN 2015 FAIR OAKS, Calif. (Mar. 3, 2015) - There will be a new alignment for Area 1's American Legion baseball in 2015, with three districts each having its own championship tournament and each sending the winner to an 8-team state championship. Making up the Area 1 North will be Chico, Oroville, Orland, Humbolt and Red Bluff. Area 1 West will be Fairfield, Petaluma, Napa, Sonoma and Vacaville. Area 1 East will be Yolo, West Sacramento, Lodi, Yuba City and Fair Oaks. As of February, however, only Yolo and Yuba City were confirmed for the East Division.

Thanks!!!
2014 WAS DISAPPOINTING SEASON OF CHANGE FOR POST 383 OAKS By Joe Blenkle, Post 383 Web Page Editor FAIR OAKS, Calif. (July 31, 2014) - It was a disappointing season of change for Fair Oaks Post 383's baseball team in 2014. With a new coach (Ken Fuhrman), who at times seemed more enthusiastic than the players, the Oaks compiled a 5-11 record, their fewest number of wins since the team began in 1989. For the first time ever, the Oaks canceled multiple games due to insufficient players. It was reported that players didn't show up to practice and often would give late notice they wouldn't be at games. This was disrespectful to the coaching staff and an embarrassment to a team that has a long history of dedication and success on the field. There was a lot of turmoil for the 2014 season. District 6 dropped from five to four teams (at one time the league boasted 16 teams). District playoffs were eliminated and a new interleague format was created with Area 1 - Eastern (Fair Oaks, Yolo, West Sacramento, Lodi), Western (Fairfield, Napa, Petaluma, Humboldt) and Northern (Chico, Redding, Orland, Susanville) Divisions created. This was more or less abandoned with the Northern teams left to do their own thing and limited play between the Eastern and Western Divisions. It was further complicated when Napa ultimately did not field a Legion team in 2014. I have never officially been connected with Fair Oaks Post 383's baseball team. I started covering them in 1990 for The Orangevale News and when I quit there in 1996 I created this web page. The 25 years I have covered the Oaks has been a labor of love. This season, however, left me wondering if there is a future for the Post 383 baseball team. It has been an ongoing problem for the past few years getting players to commit, but never so bad as this past season. I sincerely hope the Oaks continue on in 2015 and can again rise to be one of the elite teams in the area. I don't want to see them go out with a whimper as they did in 2014.
